These Verifier Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your use of the Verifier. By using the Verifier you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Verifier.
1. What the Verifier Is
1.1 The Verifier is a free, public tool that checks whether the content of a sealed export produced by the CelesteOS service (a "Sealed Export") is consistent with the integrity digests recorded inside it. At the date of these Terms, the Verifier accepts Sealed Exports in PDF format that contain an embedded sealing receipt. No account, login or key is required.
1.2 Your file stays on your device. The Verifier runs entirely in your web browser. The file you check is read locally by your browser and is not uploaded to Company or anyone else. The Verifier makes no network requests about your file and contains no analytics. Company therefore has no record of which files you checked or of their results.
1.3 Ordinary web hosting. Loading the Verifier web page is an ordinary web request. The Company's hosting provider may process standard technical data, such as your IP address, browser type and the time of the request, to deliver and secure the page, as described in the Company's Privacy Policy at https://celeste7.ai/privacy-policy. That data does not include your file or the results of any check.
2. What the Verifier Checks
2.1 A Sealed Export contains the sealed records together with an integrity block of cryptographic digests: a SHA-256 digest of the canonical record content and a Merkle root computed over per-event SHA-256 hashes. At the date of these Terms, the Verifier checks:
(a) that the SHA-256 digest of the record content matches the digest recorded in the Sealed Export;
(b) that the Merkle root recomputed from the sealed events matches the Merkle root recorded in the Sealed Export;
(c) that the structure, fields, record and event counts, and ordering of the sealed data are consistent with the published format; and
(d) that a signature and a sealing receipt are present in the Sealed Export.
Information printed on a Sealed Export's cover page (for example, vessel or exporter names) is displayed by the Verifier for convenience but is not covered by the integrity digests unless it also appears in the sealed records.
2.2 The method is open. The hashing method (SHA-256 over a canonical form of the record content, and a Merkle tree over per-event hashes) uses no secret key, so anyone can recompute the same values with independent tools. Company publishes a description of the method, including the canonicalization rule, at https://verifier.celeste7.ai/spec. Because the method is published, verification does not depend on Company, on the Verifier remaining available, or on Company continuing in business.
3. What a Result Means, and What It Does Not
3.1 A "pass" means that the content of the file you checked matches the digests recorded inside it. If the file is a genuine Sealed Export, this indicates that its sealed content has not been altered since it was sealed. The Verifier cannot itself confirm that a file is genuine (Section 3.2(a)). On screen, a pass is shown as a green result stating that the content matches its seal, with a link to an explanation of what a pass means; a result "with cautions" (amber) means the content matched but the file uses an older format or triggered a warning that you should read before relying on it.
3.2 A "pass" does NOT mean, and the Verifier does NOT confirm, that:
(a) the file was produced by Company or by any particular person. Because the method uses no secret key, a file that is internally consistent can be constructed by anyone, and the Verifier does not currently validate the signature that would show who sealed it;
(b) the signature or the timestamp in the file is valid, or that the file was sealed at the time it states. The Verifier currently checks only that these elements are present. The signing certificate is self-signed and has not been issued by a public certificate authority;
(c) the identity of any person who created, approved or signed the underlying records;
(d) the records are true, accurate or complete. Even for a genuine Sealed Export, a seal indicates only that the sealed content has not been altered since it was sealed, not that what was entered was correct;
(e) the file is admissible, or will be given any particular weight, in any court, arbitration, investigation, survey or regulatory proceeding. A result from the Verifier is not a legal opinion; or
(f) the file carries a qualified or advanced electronic signature (for example, under the EU eIDAS Regulation), or any form of certification by Company, a certificate authority or a public body.
3.3 A "fail" or "cannot verify" result means that the Verifier could not confirm that the content matches its recorded digests. Possible causes include alteration of the file, a corrupted or incomplete download, a file that is not a Sealed Export, or a format version that the Verifier does not support. A fail result is not, by itself, proof of tampering. If you are relying on the file, ask the person who gave it to you for an original copy, or contact Company at contact@celeste7.ai.
3.4 Your own judgment. You are responsible for deciding how much weight to give a Verifier result. If you need to establish origin, authorship or timing (for example, for litigation, a survey, a purchase or a regulatory filing), obtain the original from its source and seek professional advice.
4. Availability
4.1 The Verifier is provided free of charge, "as is" and "as available". Company may change, suspend or withdraw the Verifier, or change the checks it performs, at any time. Because the method is open (Section 2.2), you can verify Sealed Exports independently if the Verifier is unavailable.
5. Acceptable Use
5.1 You must not:
(a) attack, overload, probe for vulnerabilities in, or interfere with the Verifier or the infrastructure that hosts it, except through a responsible-disclosure report to contact@celeste7.ai (subject line "Security") or under a published vulnerability-disclosure policy;
(b) misrepresent a Verifier result, including by presenting a "pass" as proof of origin, authorship, signature validity, timestamp, accuracy or legal admissibility, or by editing or fabricating a screenshot or report of a result;
(c) state or imply that Company has certified, endorsed or vouched for any file, record or person because a file passed the Verifier; or
(d) use the Verifier, or the CelesteOS or Company names or marks, in a way that is unlawful, deceptive or likely to cause confusion.
6. Intellectual Property
6.1 The Verifier software, design and content, and Company's names and marks, are owned by Company or its licensors. The Verifier does not give Company any rights in the files you check.
7. Limitation of Liability
7.1 Disclaimer. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, COMPANY DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS, IMPLIED OR STATUTORY, ABOUT THE VERIFIER AND ITS RESULTS, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF ACCURACY, MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.
7.2 Cap. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, COMPANY WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, REVENUE, DATA OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM THE VERIFIER, AND COMPANY'S TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS RELATING TO THE VERIFIER, WHETHER IN CONTRACT, TORT (INCLUDING NEGLIGENCE), STRICT LIABILITY OR OTHERWISE, WILL NOT EXCEED USD 100.
7.3 Exceptions. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law, including liability for fraud, gross negligence, willful misconduct or other intentional tort.
7.4 Not a party to your disputes. Company is not a party to, and has no obligation in, any dispute between people who hold, rely on or contest a Sealed Export (for example, between a vessel owner, a buyer, a crew member, a surveyor or a regulator). Company has no duty to provide evidence or testimony about a Sealed Export except as required by law or as agreed in writing with its customer.
7.5 Customers. If you are a Company customer, your contract with Company governs your use of SealMark and Sealed Exports. These Terms govern only your use of the public Verifier.
8. Governing Law and Disputes
8.1 Governing law. These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules.
8.2 If you have accepted the Company's website Terms of Use. If you have accepted Company's website Terms of Use at https://celeste7.ai/terms-of-service (for example, by creating an account or by agreeing to them on the Company's websites), any dispute relating to the Verifier will be resolved in accordance with the dispute-resolution section of those Terms of Use, including its arbitration agreement, class-action waiver and 30-day opt-out right, which are incorporated into these Terms by reference for you. If you have a signed agreement with Company for the CelesteOS service, that agreement governs instead.
8.3 Everyone else: courts in Florida. If you have not accepted Company's website Terms of Use or a signed agreement with Company, the arbitration agreement in those Terms of Use does not apply to you. Any dispute relating to the Verifier will instead be resolved exclusively in the state courts located in Pinellas County, Florida, or the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida, Tampa Division (where it has subject-matter jurisdiction), and you and Company consent to the jurisdiction and venue of those courts. Either party may seek injunctive relief in any court of competent jurisdiction to protect its intellectual property. TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, YOU AND COMPANY EACH KNOWINGLY, VOLUNTARILY AND INTENTIONALLY WAIVE THE RIGHT TO A TRIAL BY JURY IN ANY SUCH DISPUTE.
8.4 If you are a consumer in a jurisdiction whose laws give you rights that cannot be waived by contract, nothing in these Terms limits those rights.
9. Changes and Contact
9.1 Company may update these Terms by posting a new version on the Verifier page with a new "Last updated" date. The version in effect when you use the Verifier applies to that use.
9.2 Questions: contact@celeste7.ai. Security reports: contact@celeste7.ai (subject line "Security").
